For years after Doug Delarue and his friends went out to
check on their boat and never returned, their wives held
out hope that one day the three men would come back, safe
and unharmed. When the men are legally declared dead, Jade
Delarue finally accepts that it's time to move on with her
life. To that end, Jade, a witch, casts a spell to bring
her a new love, and if he happens to look like Pierce
Brosnan, that's all the better. When Jade's spell goes
slightly awry, she frantically begins the rituals to turn
it around.
Mason Kincaid and his partner, Anthony, travel to Mystic
Manor to investigate the three widows who stand to collect
a tidy sum in life insurance now that their husbands have
officially been declared dead. Having just been left at the
altar, literally, Mason is uninterested in the case,
preferring to drown his sorrows on the beaches of Aruba.
But his interest is piqued when he meets the bewitching
Jade. She, however, is stunned when Mason, a Pierce Brosnan
look-alike, walks through her door. The more Jade works on
getting Mason to leave, the more he's determined to stay
and prove her innocence.
Jenna McKnight's WITCH IN THE HOUSE is a fun, well-
written romance, the first of three. Jade is an intriguing
character, comfortable with her life and yet longing for a
little more. And Mason is leery of commitment, though
totally intrigued by the woman with some unusual habits.
Despite their differences, they manage to find common
ground. The supporting cast is delightful in their
quirkiness, and the two remaining widows have intriguingly
different lives that should prove to make for interesting
stories in future books. I look forward to returning to the
small town in Missouri and learning the fate of the three
missing husbands!
Jade Delarue is determined to find the man of her
dreams, so the sexy witch casts a spell that brings a
gorgeous man to her door. But private detective Mason
Kincaid isn't looking for love. Jilted by his last
girlfriend, Mason's thrown himself into his work. He's
visiting Jade on official business, and not even the
blizzard raging outside her house — or her spellbinding
beauty — can distract him.
Then Jade realizes the
mistake she's made in her spell, and she wants him gone.
But there are charms to spare in Mystic Manor, showing
Mason that the witch in the house might be the woman he's
been waiting for. Convincing her, though, means coming up
with a little magic of his own.
