Ash Denison has decided to enjoy life after years of
fighting the French. His life as a child was spent
protecting his mother and younger brother from his father.
With the death of his brother, Harry, and then the death of
his mother, Ash has no one to take care of except himself.
He enjoys the ladies but he isn't interested in marriage;
despite his grandmother's desire to see him wed.
When an anonymous author writing under the name of Angelo,
publishes a story about the death of a footman at a great
house, Ash is approached to discover the identity of the
writer. When a second story appears about the death of
Harry and insinuates that it was murder, Ash is determined
to solve the mystery.
Eve Dearing's mother died in mysterious circumstances. The
members of her family all have different gifts. Upon the
death of her mother, Eve renounces her gift. Her father
never understood the bond between mother and daughter.
When he remarries to provide a mother for Eve, she choses
to go and live with her aunt, Miss Claverly.
Eve grows up with a vivid imagination and choses to become
a writer. Her books do well and allow her to life the
lifestyle she chooses. Once a year her publisher puts on
an event for his authors. Eve and her aunt choose to
attend. Lady Sayers is also an author. She holds a
houseparty around the time of the author event and has
invited Eve and Miss Claverly to the party.
Eve's decision to attend both events will draw her to the
attention of Ash Denison and Angelo. As she and Ash work
to determine the identity of Angelo, more deaths occur.
They will both be drawn into events which will spiral out
of control and lead to the revelation of a serial killer.
This is the end of the trilogy which started with THE
BACHELOR TRAP. It aslo works well as a stand alone book.
Ms. Thornton has written an intriguing, well-plotted story
peopled with interesting and unique characters.
Eve is a strong person who refuses to be intimidated by the
flirtatious behavior of Ash Denison. Ash is a great hero
who realizes that his life is missing something and sets
out to find what he is missing. The secondary characters
are well written. The identity of the villain is well-
hidden until right near the end and proves something of a
surprise. The slightest hint of psychic gifts adds a hint
of spice to the plot.
After years of heroism in the fight against the French, Ash
Denison wants nothing more than to savor the good life. But
an urgent request has sent him to a writer’s symposium. His
charge: to unmask an author who has rattled several members
of the ton by revealing their most intimate, most
scandalous secrets. Not one to be left out, when Ash
encounters a bold, beautiful–irresistibly aloof–woman
writer, he can’t help stirring up some gossip of his
own. . . .
Much to Eve Dearing’s surprise, Ash is far from the well-
mannered gentleman she’s heard about. In fact, he’s
shockingly brash and has taken an inexplicable interest in
manhandling her at every turn. Yet something about his
searing embrace makes her forgive his wicked behavior–and
succumb to his dangerous seduction. And when a fellow
writer is brutally attacked and Eve becomes the killer’s
next target, Ash surprises her once more by vowing not only
to keep her safe . . . but to win her heart.
