Women's Fiction | Suspense

There is nothing sweeter than the sound of the voice of a true friend. Olivia, Tracy, Janis, and Holly know these words to be true. Together, they conquered the halls of catholic school, known to all as the Godmothers, and caroused and dreamed while holding each other's hands. Usually, all good things must come to an end, but not for these girls. Together, they chose to remain close and face the joy and heartache that comes with the journey of life while taking each other along for the ride.

When death touches Olivia's life, she finds herself trekking back home to the States to be comforted by her childhood friends. Hoping to mend her broken heart, the group decides to take a voyage aboard a luxury sailboat in the Caribbean which turns out to be a bonding experience that each of them so desperately needs. As luck would have it, one of the friends must stay behind for familial duties, but fortunately the nineteen year old daughter of another chooses to go in her place so all is not loss.

What starts out as an innocent journey turns into the most turbulent and life challenging ordeal that will forever be imbedded in their souls. From betrayal to piracy to the survival of the fittest, the women must fight the elements as they try to save themselves and their boat before the sea washes them way forever. Never could they have imagined that this trip would serve not only as an adventure, but also as an unforgettable quest to find the true meaning of life. Who will survive? But more importantly, will their friendship stand the test of time?

STILL SUMMER is a dynamic and well-written novel that allows the reader to feel as if she is riding the wave with the intensity of the sea as it crashes down and then as if all is lost, finally there is serenity. Well worth the voyage, Mitchard delivers what every author hopes to achieve, pure success.

SUMMARY

Back in high school, Tracy, Olivia, and Holly were known as The Godmothers, the girls everyone wanted to be and know. Unlike many friendships, their bond survived the years. But 20 years later, their glamorous leader, Olivia, whose wealthy Italian husband has died, suggests they reunite on her return to the United States with a luxury sailboat crossing in the Caribbean. With Tracy's college-aged daughter and an attentive two-man crew, they sail into paradise. But then, the smallest mistake triggers a series of devastating events. Suddenly in a desperate fight for survival, they battle the elements, dwindling food and water, the threat of modern-day piracy, and their own frailties. STILL SUMMER is at once a breathtaking adventure and a story about the bonds that hold friend to friend and mothers to daughters, and how facing our own mortality tests the truth of everything we think we know.
