Thriller | Suspense

U.S Attorney Elizabeth Shaler returns to her vacation home in Sun Valley to attend a conference with wealthy businessmen and power brokers. She plans to announce her presidential candidacy at the end of the meetings. Even after a credible threat is made on her life, Liz refuses to cancel. Walt Fleming, who saved her life eight years ago when a killer attacked her, is now the county sheriff. Liz is confident he can prevent any attempt made on her life. From the evidence he sees, Walt believes the threat on Liz's life is imminent. He tries to maneuver an alliance between the feds and his office, without success. Walt has a prickly and cool relationship with his father, a former FBI agent who's now security expert for the businessmen. His father does not attempt to help Walt and places roadblocks in his son's way. Power and money make cooperation between FBI, Secret Service and private security impossible. Walt's nightmare increases with an apparent murder and his dysfunctional private life coming apart. His nephew is arrested and his soon-to-be ex-wife is having an affair with his deputy. Best-selling author Ridley Pearson deviates from writing children's books and his Lou Bolt series with a taut new thriller. The story unfolds within a weekend with different plot lines converging and characters lives intersecting with unexpected revelations. It comes together in a thrilling conclusion guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

SUMMARY

Eight years ago, in Sun Valley-snowcapped playground for the wealthy and ambitious-all that stood between U.S. Attorney General Elizabeth Shaler and a knife-wielding killer was local patrolman Walt Fleming. Now Liz Shaler returns to Sun Valley as the keynote speaker of billionaire Patrick Cutter's world-famous media and communications conference, a convergence of the richest, most powerful business tycoons. The controversial attorney general is expected to announce her candidacy for president. It's a media coup for Cutter-but a security nightmare for Walt Fleming, now the county sheriff. As the Cutter conference gets under way, authorities learn of a confirmed threat on Shaler's life, and various competing interests-the Secret Service, the FBI, Cutter's own security forces -begin jockeying for jurisdiction. Amid the conference's opulent extravagances, Walt is suddenly shaken by an apparent murder, his nephew's arrest, and a haunting legacy from his family's past. The clock ticks down toward Shaler's keynote address as we track the chilling precision of her assassin's preparations.
