This Canadian is returning to Australia as the star witness
in a serial killer's trial. Makedde was almost his 10th
victim. If it weren't for Det. Andy Flynn, her love
interest, arriving on the scene to shoot Ed Brown, Makedde
wouldn't be getting justice for her best friend, one of
Ed's other victims.
Eighteen months have passed and Makedde is not looking
forward to returning to Australia and the memories of the
torture Ed put her through before he was shot, cutting off
her big toe while she suffered through the pain. She also
has confusion on exactly where she and Andy left off months
before.
The Australian police need closure for the victims'
families. As part of a plea bargain, Ed has promised to
show them where he hid the other bodies. What should have
been a well-planned excursion turns into a garish nightmare
as an unlikely accomplice sets a death trap for the
unsuspecting police. Many are injured; some die, but worst
of all, Ed Brown escapes their custody. He has unfinished
business -- Makedde.
Makedde leaves Australia for Hong Kong for a modeling job.
She wants to put as much space as possible between herself
and Ed. She knows she's also putting space between herself
and Andy. When Ed Brown shows up in Hong Kong, Andy isn't
there to save her. Makedde will have to save herself.
COVET by Tara Moss isn't the typical fast-paced
suspense thriller I'm used to reading. It's fast-paced, but
more so about Makedde's relationship with Andy than
escaping a serial killer. So, if you are not partial to a
lot of gore, this book is great. We do get the killer's
point of view and the sub-plot is as twisted as Ed Brown.
Makedde and Andy struggle through their communication
issues and their past, which is full of death and painful
memories, making it hard to determine what a life without
turmoil will be like. They don't know what the future will
bring for them, but hope prevails.
Makedde Vanderwall has done something few women can claim—
she survived a terrifying ordeal at the hands of the
sadistic Stiletto Murderer. Eighteen months later, she has
steeled her nerve to confront him again at his trial. But
her worst nightmare comes to life when the killer escapes,
aided by an accomplice no one could have suspected. The
Stiletto Murderer has only one goal now…to find Mak and
finish what he started.
