The Duke's Indiscretion

Romance Historical

Lady Charlotte Hughes has an amazing voice that she's perfected with training. Against the wishes of her brother, Charlotte performs incognito as Lottie English at the Royal Italian Opera House. No one suspects that the sexy, mysterious Lottie is Charlotte. Moreover, why would they? Charlotte hides behind a plain, shy demeanor and conducts herself as a perfect lady, whereas Lottie mesmerizes her audience with her dazzling performances. No one knows, until one determined fan accidentally discovers her secret.

Colin Ramsey, the Duke of Newark, fell in love with Lottie English the first time he heard her sing. Thwarted at his many attempts to meet her, Colin has concocted Lottie into his perfect fantasy woman. Where normally women are not adverse to his charm and seductive powers, Lottie presents a challenge. When he inadvertently discovers her true identity, Colin is further unsettled when she proposes marriage.

Charlotte sees marriage with Colin as a way to escape her brother and provide her with a way to continue her career. It doesn't take much to convince Colin that marriage will also benefit him. He'll have his fantasy woman all to himself. After a disastrous wedding night, they learn that a marriage based on fantasy cannot succeed. Colin must learn to separate fiction from reality and Charlotte must come to terms with her alter ego.

Ms. Ashworth delivers a wickedly sensual romance while cleverly incorporating her love of music and opera. Her characters are memorable and intelligent. The plot is insightful as it tackles the reality of living with a fantasy versus living with a woman who has her own hopes and desires.

SUMMARY

Lady Charlotte Hughes lives a double life. By day, she is the plain, demure sister of a domineering brother who wants her married and out of the way. By night, she is Lottie English, an intoxicating, glamorous woman of mystery—a famed opera singer who drives men wild with wanting her. But the only man Charlotte wants is Colin Ramsey, Duke of Newark, though the dashing nobleman would certainly never risk his reputation on a woman like her. Imagine her shock, then, when the duke reveals himself as a smitten fan . . . and, while attempting to seduce her, inadvertently discovers her true identity.

Charlotte will submit to the handsome duke's every wish, but only as his wife—a proposal Colin eagerly accepts. But his secret duty to the Crown—to expose Charlotte's nemesis— threatens the fiery, very real passion that consumes them. And when Charlotte herself is suddenly imperiled, Colin must choose where his loyalties lie—and risk everything for the remarkable lady who has so thoroughly captured his heart.
