Callan Kilkenny, a killer of the innocent and a creature of the night, is searching for the cure to his horrible affliction. He despises what he's become, so Callan travels from England to Scotland in search of an end to his nightmares. He believes a doctor and his daughter have the answer he's craving -- the chance to become human again.
Jane Blundell and her father, Dr. James Blundell, are outcasts of Urquhart Valley, Scotland. Jane is infected by vampire blood, so her father is dedicating his life work of blood transfusion to help find the cure to his daughter's illness. Jane is becoming more aware of the changes she's experiencing, but when Callan arrives at their home and defeats a vampire who does not want them to succeed in their quest of a cure, Jane has many questions. She's unable to resist Callan, as well as her own uncontrollable urges.
This book is refreshingly dark and brooding. Susan Squires introduces an interesting version of the history of vampires and the society to which they belong. This is a great book, and I recommend it to all vampire enthusiasts.
