After her retired military husband's death, Jane Thistle
decides to begin a new life in a quiet Alabama town. Jane
has traipsed all over the world, base-to-base with her late
husband. Now, she desires a place of tranquility and
beauty. When she takes a wrong turn, Jane discovers the
town of Tallulah, where an old house beside a wildlife
refuge catches her imagination. She feels an instant
connection with the house. Immediately, Jane meets and
strikes up a friendship with Phoebe Twigg, a good-natured
flirt and gossip. They're exact opposites, but Jane, who's
never stayed any place for long, has found her first best
friend.
As Jane and Phoebe explore the refuge, they stumble upon a
dead body. When the authorities blame Jane's reclusive
neighbor, she and Phoebe set out to find the real culprits.
Their investigation puts them both in harms way. A firebomb
explodes in Phoebe's home and Jane hears strange noises and
finds odd objects left in the home. Jane and Phoebe refuse
to be intimidated and continue their quest for the truth.
Ms. Saums debuts a new cozy mystery series with two
eccentric, yet very charming ladies. She lightens the
suspense with a large dose of Southern humor and adds local
Indian lore with a touch of the supernatural making this a
must-read.
Jane Thistle is a widow who has just settled down in
Tullulah, Alabama, after a long and happy life with her
husband, a career military officer whose job took them all
over the world. But now that shes on her own, shes just as
happy to have found this delightful small Southern town to
call home. Her new best friend is Phoebe Twigg, also a
widow, who has lived in Tullulah all her life.
Phoebe is about as different as could be from the worldly
and refined Jane, but her colorful personality and her
warm, welcoming Southern nature make them quite a team. The
two ladies bond quickly when they stumble on a dead body
while on a walk in the woods near Janes new house. And
thats not all. Someone seems to be threatening Janes
neighbor, an old recluse who seems to have more interest in
the land than in its inhabitants. When a firebomb explodes
in Phoebes kitchen; and unexplainable sounds and objects
turn up at the strangest times in Janes house, Jane and
Phoebe quickly become partners in investigation in Mary
Saums funny and charmingand surprisingseries debut.
