In this third installment of the Night Slayer series, Detective John Boehler has just had his first confirmed sighting of a vampire, even though he doesn't know it yet.
The man John has worked so hard to capture and see convicted has been set free. Even though John has been suspended from the force, he still feels a driving need to prove Simon Brody guilty. On a hunch, John detours through the park, knowing it's Brody's favorite hunting ground. What he finds instead will change his life forever.
Ever since she watched her family slain by vampires, Jessica Winslow, Admiral Winslow's niece, has been out for revenge. Having just arrived from England, Jessica sees an opportunity to slay a vampire and goes charging through the darkened park, sword in tow. But before Jessica can strike, she finds herself tackled to the ground and arrested.
The sparks between John and Jessica are evident from their first encounter in the park, and as their separate agendas keep throwing them together, the tension grows. When Jessica finds herself the target of the freshly-fanged Brody, John sets out to kill two birds -- protect Jess and capture Brody. What neither of them counts on is the chance to find a love that will last forever -- assuming they both survive...
TEMPTED IN THE NIGHT is an entertaining read that gives you a glimpse of the characters from the previous books (OUT OF THE NIGHT and SEDUCED BY THE NIGHT) without dwelling too much on the stories already told. It's a great addition to this paranormal series, but quite enjoyable even if you haven't read the others. A must-read, either way.
