Running away from home and going to London is not the smartest thing the Applegate twins have ever done. Ophelia is determined to answer her calling and become a great actress. Cordelia is just as determined to keep her sister off the stage and out of trouble.
When Cordelia is wrenched away from her sister, she's saved by a tall, good-looking stranger. She finds him attractive, but when he offers to lend the sisters aid, Ophelia decides he can't be trusted and they escape to a church. At the church, they're offered aid from the vicar. They also discover that Cordelia's handsome stranger is none other than the vicar's cousin, Ransom Sheffield. Ransom was attracted to Cordelia from the moment he first sees her, but he has problems of his own and cannot focus on a woman until his dilemma is solved.
Ophelia starts flirting with Giles, the handsome young vicar, and she soon realizes she wants to see him every evening. When trouble arises, Ophelia runs to Giles knowing he'll help her. However, the night they spend alone without a chaperone can only mean one thing, and Ophelia just doesn't think she's cut out to be the wife of a vicar.
A LADY OF SCANDAL is fun and eventful. The twins grow from country misses to London ladies and find love when and where they least expect it. I highly recommend this book
Everyone know ladies cannot become actresses: everyone
except the riotous Applegate twins, Ophelia and Cordelia,
who run away from their Yorkshire home to go on stage,
daring the dangers of London's dark alleys and meeting
rakes, White Slavery gangs, handsome gentleman thieves, and
much more. Neither they, nor London, may ever be the same!
