Pauline Sokol, ex-nurse-turned-medical insurance fraud investigator, is on the case, this time going undercover at a posh clinic in Newport, Rhode Island, that specializes in plastic surgery. Insurance companies are being billed enormous amounts of money for questionably covered services, and it's up to Pauline to discover who's submitting fraudulent insurance claims. Roommate and best friend Goldie Perlman volunteers to undergo a nose job at the clinic, giving Pauline a chance to go undercover as his private nurse.

There is no shortage of possible suspects in the insurance fraud case, but things heat up when a local man, whose wife is a frequent flyer at the clinic, is murdered. When the primary suspect in that murder, who works at the clinic, is also killed, Pauline wonders if there's a connection between her case and the murders.

Pauline is full of humor and determination to make a success of her chosen career, Miles and Goldie are ever supportive of their best friend, and the mysterious Jagger plays an even bigger role in this book, revealing more about their "are they or aren't they" relationship.
