Gillian MacDonell was sent away as a young girl after
witnessing her mother's horrible death. Now, she's been
brought back to Glen Laire to her home, her sisters and her
dying father, Alan MacDonnell. They're all together again,
but Alan is very ill, and his wish is to see all three of
his daughters married before he dies.
Gillian believes she has no magic powers, and this lays
heavy on her heart. She doesn't fit in like her sisters,
Isobel and Rose. She can't help with healing her father,
and anytime she thinks of her mother, she has debilitating
head pain. Gillian feels useless.
Cynical Nicholas Lyon, twelfth Earl of Kincreag, is
summoned to Glen Laire. One of his oldest friends is dying
and he can't deny Alan MacDonnell's wish to see him.
Nicholas arrives to find MacDonell unwell and offering him
Gillian as a substitute. He feels betrayed and is bitter
toward the MacDonells. Betrothed to marry Alan's eldest
daughter, Isobel, she found love with a Highland knight and
married him instead (in MY WICKED HIGHLAND, June 2005).
Nicholas is not happy with the situation. How can he agree
to marry Gillian when he was humiliated by her sister? How
can he trust another MacDonell witch? Witches are tried and
burned if found out. Nicholas finally accepts Alan's dying
pleas, but only because he owes Alan a debt and has no
other choice. Nicholas and Gillian marry hastily and travel
to Kincreag Castle.
Gillian begins to break down the Earl of Kincreag's walls,
showing him what a marriage is all about. But something
strange has been happening at the castle since Gillian's
arrival. Someone, or something, wants her dead. The ghost
of the earl's first wife, Catriona, is said to haunt the
cliffs where she was thought to have been pushed by her
husband. Although acquitted by the king, some still believe
the earl killed her.
Rose and Isobel come to help Gillian discover her mystical
powers and break the curse that's been placed on her since
the death of their mother. Disobeying her husband's
warnings against using her craft, Gillian falls into the
hands of a deceitful accomplice, someone close to Nicholas.
Nicholas discovers who's trying to kill Gillian and finally
puts an end to the mysterious ghosts of Kincreag. Gillian
melts Nicholas' heart, showing him how to open up, forgive
and believe in the power of love.
MY DEVILISH SCOTSMAN blends elements of mystery, suspense
and magic into a romantic tale of finding true love. I look
forward to reading the next in Ms. Holling's trilogy, MY
SHADOW WARRIOR, coming in August. If you like historical
romances set in medieval Scotland mixed with mysticism,
adventure and witchcraft, you'll enjoy this trilogy.
Gillian MacDonell has always felt lacking because, unlike
her sisters, she did not inherit any mystical powers. But
when her father arranges a match with notorious Nicholas
Lyon, Earl of Kincreag -- a Scotsman rumored to have
murdered his wife -- strange visions plague her like never
before. From Gillian's first moment inside Kincreag Castle,
she is filled with foreboding and when attempts are made on
her life, she fears the rumors may be true. But their
passion burns bright and Nicholas's cold heart starts to
melt. Will his desire for her turn to wrath when he learns
that she's really a witch after all?
