Pietra "Pete" Lang is the backbone of her family and the
only one who seems to have a bit of common sense.
Therefore, when her beloved grandmother, the matriarch of
Langstown, Florida, passes away, it's only natural that
she's the gal to handle the job. However, Grandma Lang
doesn't have a skeleton in her closet, she's got a dead
body in her freezer! Pete is the only sane one of the
bunch, and the town of Langstown is beholden to its
matriarch. What she can't have is a scandal on her hands,
and so she and her best friend, Albert, are in a fine
pickle when they have to figure out a way to make this
problem sink quietly away.
Danny Benedict is a suave, savvy and highly respected
divorce attorney. What he doesn't have is a life of his
own. His secretary is forever trying to set him up with one
romantic interest or another, but no one seems to have the
power to capture his fancy for long. That's before he
catches up with Pete Lang. There to handle the quirky
divorce of Pete's brother, an important politician, Danny
is instead mesmerized by this backwater spitfire. The only
problem is she's got a body on her hands and doesn't want
him to do what's ethically right and report it. It turns
out Grandma Lang has put her dead husband's floozy on ice,
and when the freezer dies as well, there's a lot that
smells rotten in Langstown. What's a guy to do when he
finally meets the girl of his dreams and she's up to her
elbows in scandal?
Ms. Buckley has created a quick-paced, comical romance that
readers will enjoy. The dialogue is snippy, snappy and
satirical, while the characters are quirky and amusing.
Even though the storyline doesn't address how to handle
your insane family and what you really should do with a
dead body on hand, it does leave you chuckling. Good for a
light amusing read, for those who want a good laugh instead
of a dose of reality.
The death of her grandmother--the beloved matriarch of
Langstown, Florida--has thrown Pietra "Pete" Lang's
preparations for the Fourth of July into chaos. But nothing
is going to stop her from throwing the most fabulous party
ever. Not the fireworks igniting between her and her
brother's infamous divorce attorney. And especially not the
dead body in the freezer.
