Excerpt of Jett by Dana Pratola

His fingers worked at the buttons on his shirt. “First things first.”

Whoa. What exactly did he have in mind? “What are you doing?” “What I should have done a long time ago. Stop prolonging the agony for both of us.” Haven followed his fingers with her eyes as he deftly slid each button free. At last his shirt fell open to reveal hard stomach muscles bisected by a column of hair that disappeared into the waist of his jeans. She should close her eyes, or turn away, but was awestruck.

“You won’t be ready and I can’t prepare you. Last chance to sit,” Jett said.

Questions fired through Haven’s mind, increasing the tension on her nerves. Did he intend to seduce her? What was he trying to prove? That he could transform her to a puddle of need by showing her his body? Just how far did he plan to take this?

“Don’t scream.”

Her breath came in short, choppy spurts. “Wh—why would I scream?”

“Why indeed?” He slowly spread the shirt open, watching her face.
