Just when she thought he wouldnβt comment further on the
file, he added, βThen, book a second airline seat for
yourself on the flight to Grand Cayman.β
βButββ
Jess quickly interrupted any excuse she might have given.
βIf anyone can help me pull this all together on such short
notice, Miss Martin, itβs you. Book the
flights, our hotel accommodations, and advise Mack MacKenzie
of our arrival date.β
βWhat about the office?β she asked. βWhoβs going to run
things here?β As an excuse it wasnβt much, but all she had
at the moment.
βAs I see it, if Iβm not here, you donβt need to be here.
Paula can handle any emergencies and the receptionist can
take your messages.β
βWhen do you want to leave?β she asked.
βDay after tomorrow, preferably. Or, as soon as you can
rearrange my schedule.β
βDay after tomorrow is Saturday.β
βYouβve never minded working weekends before,β he pointed
out. βPlus, we can get a head start on the next week and be
home before you know it.β
Eleanor left her bossβ office in a daze. Heβd been right
when heβd said she never minded working weekends; sheβd just
not expected the weekend to be on Grand Cayman Island.
Mentally she began a list of everything sheβd need to get
done, starting with flights, hotel and a rental car,
followed by what sheβd need to pack. In the back of her
mind, something told her this was not going to work out
well. However, short of breaking a leg, she didnβt see a way
out of making the trip.
