Daisy turned around and grinned. “Thank the kids. They insisted.”
Ben watched them all leave and then reached for the tin of cookies to sample one of the golden stars. The cookie melted in his mouth.
Cavernous silence engulfed the house that was noisy and full of laughter just minutes ago. It was as if Daisy and the triplets took the light and warmth with them.
