April Henry
April Henry is the bestselling author of mysteries and thrillers for adults and teens. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her family.
When April was 11 years old, she wrote a short story about a six-foot-tall frog who loved peanut butter and sent it to Roald Dahl, the legendary author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He was so charmed by it that he took it to lunch and showed it to the editor of a British children’s magazine — who asked to publish it. (For no money, which may have been an early lesson in how hard it is to make a living as a writer.)
Her dream of writing stayed quiet until her 30s, when she was working a corporate job, caring for a new baby, and writing books on the side. Those early years—writing a novel a year while working full-time—are now a blur. Today, April is fortunate to write full time and do what she loves. She is the author of 26 novels, with more on the way. Her books have appeared on the New York Times bestseller list, received starred reviews, won the Anthony Award, been selected for IndieNext, translated into eight languages, and honored with awards in a dozen states.
