Sean Robins is a university-level English teacher whose life, by his own admission, isn’t nearly as adventurous as that of his main protagonist. Yet his experiences living and working in six different countries—including Canada—have given him a global perspective that shines through in his writing. His characters resemble the diverse bridge crew of Star Trek, hailing from the U.S., Germany, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Russia, Japan, and Ukraine, with a few aliens and even an AI thrown in for good measure. One of his female characters once impersonated Uhura—albeit posthumously.
A devoted fan of Marvel, Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate, Robins infuses his novels with pop culture references and a light-hearted tone. While his books aren’t comedies, readers can expect laugh-out-loud moments, especially thanks to his “good” aliens—a race of pranksters whose main goal in life is pulling other people’s legs (they have four legs, hence the twist on the idiom).
Robins cites Jim Butcher, author of The Dresden Files, as his favorite writer, which explains his preference for first-person POV and witty, fast-paced storytelling. Coincidentally, his main character is named Jim—though not after James Kirk.
His debut, The Crimson Deathbringer, introduced readers to his unique blend of humor, action, and heart. The series continues with The Golden Viper and The Black Fleet.
