Rachel Carey

Rachel Carey is an NYC-based writer, filmmaker and playwright. Her feature film ASK FOR JANE, starring Cody Horn, Sarah Steele, Ben Rappaport, and Alison Wright, screened theatrically in 10 cities nationwide in 2019 including New York and Los Angeles. Her second feature film, GOOD THOUGHTS, wrapped production in Los Angeles in Summer, 2024. Rachel also occasionally writes fun women’s fiction and is currently writing a series for Oliver Heber Books, with the first book scheduled for December 2025. You can follow her on Bluesky specifically for book updates. Other projects include writing and directing the original TV pilot TAKERS (2016), which won an award at Seriesfest for Best Actress in a Drama, and writing the 2013 novel DEBT (Silver Birch Press), which was optioned to be turned into a tv series by Ellen Pompeo's production company Calamity Jane. She also wrote The Female Genius web series for Thirdwing Media and wrote and directed the full-length plays The Disciple andVermont, both of which premiered at Wild Project theater in New York’s East Village. She received her MFA in Film Directing from NYU, an M.Ed. from Harvard, a B.A. from Yale, and is a member of NYWIFT and Film Fatales.
