Laura Van Wormer
Raised in Darien, Connecticut, Van Wormer spent a year at
the University of Arizona before switching to the S.I.
Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse
University. There she studied to be a television writer,
anchorwoman, and talk show host, “in case I never got to be
a novelist,” she recalls. Upon graduating with a B.S. degree
in 1978, she landed a job as secretary to the
editor-in-chief of Doubleday & Company, a position from
which she was promoted up through the ranks to editor. A member of the Author’s Guild, the Mystery Writers of
America, and Sisters in Crime, Laura Van Wormer divides her
time between Manhattan and a 1920’s English-style farmhouse
in Meriden, Connecticut, where she is President of the
Friends of the Library and sits on the board of the Augusta
Curtis Cultural Center.
