Tom Racine

Tom Racine is a cartoonist and author in San Diego, California. His rather varied career has encompassed stagehand work in theatre, graphic design for print and web, packaging design, art direction, traditional animation, live television and theatre production, podcasting, voice acting, and for the past 15 years, educational video production and editing. He is the colorist and Photoshop guru for Lincoln Peirce’s “Big Nate” comic strip and “Max and the MidKnights” books. Working with writer-artist Michael Cavna formerly with the Washington Post, Tom won two Society of Professional Journalists awards.

His lifelong love of all things Tolkien dates to reading “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” as a wee lad, and his mind still can’t wrap around the idea that his upcoming book “Doomed to Die: An A-Z of Death in Tolkien” is being published. From a viral “Inktober” Edward Gorey/J.R.R. Tolkien mashup to published book in less than a year…insane. He has been married for nearly 35 years to Kim Hendrix, his own personal Lúthien, and has two amazing kids, Katie and Sam, and they all provide him all the love and inspiration he could ever wish.
