Richard E. Williams is a cisgender gay male and licensed clinical psychologist in North Carolina and California. With a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) and 28 years of experience in correctional psychology, he's dedicated his professional life to helping others overcome their mental health and substance abuse challenges. Despite his clinical career, writing has always been his true passion. He began as a writing major in college before switching to psychology and has been crafting stories for over 25 years.
His first novel, Eros Rising (Olympus Ascending Book One), is an MM urban fantasy romance/adventure that reflects his deep commitment to positively representing LGBTQI+ characters. He aims to create engrossing stories that keep readers engaged and invested while inspiring them to live confidently as their authentic selves. He hopes his readers see themselves in his characters, and through their journeys, find the courage to overcome their own obstacles.
As a lifelong fan of science fiction and fantasy, including graphic novels (especially X-Men) and Japanese anime/manga, these influences often permeate his writing. Outside of his literary pursuits, Richard is an avid sports fan, cheering for the Atlanta Braves, West Virginia University basketball/football, and the Sacramento Kings. He's also an amateur bowler and a, proud member of the longest-running LGBTQI+ bowling league in Northern California.
Professionally, he's passionate about training new clinicians and helping them achieve their goals and dreams. Personally, his experience of growing up gay in a rural area has fueled his dedication to representing sexual minorities positively and authentically in his work. Richard believes in the power of storytelling to not only entertain but also to inspire and empower.
Richard's ideal readers seek to see themselves portrayed in positive, inspiring ways, who root for the underdog, and who are looking for an escape from reality while finding motivation in his characters' journeys. In both his clinical work and his writing, he's most often complimented for his dedication and the relatable, fully developed characters he creates.
