Linda Barrett
"Whether poems, family stories, essays, or resumes, it
seems I've always been writing something! It wasn't until I
moved to Houston five years ago, however, that I was able
to focus on structuring a novel. Having LOVE, MONEY AND
AMANDA SHAW accepted by Harlequin Superromance is a dream
come true."
Linda admits that she's spent almost as much time writing
for her own enjoyment as she's spent in her full-time
professional life. The personal memoirs she's written,
featuring her immediate world of family, have also given
immense pleasure to those she loves—pleasure marked by
laughter and tears.
Currently, as the Director of Adult Education with a non-
profit community service agency, she enlists the support of
her husband, Michael, to help balance her time and energy.
"What this really means is that we eat whatever we can
scrounge up—you can put anything on a bagel—and clean the
house at some point during the week for one frantic hour.
Mike can handle that vacuum like a pro."
Linda's career in adult education has enriched her own life
immensely. "Teachers always learn more from their students
than the other way around." She's seen that when
individuals from a variety of cultures, backgrounds, and
languages come together for the single purpose of improving
their lives, it reinforces how people are basically the
same the world over. It's not surprising that one of the
books she's working on now involves a GED instructor and a
high school dropout.
"The wonderful part about writing for Superromance is the
depth and breadth of the story lines and characters. I love
the variety of tone and setting, the subplots, and unique
secondary characters. I'm also intrigued by the challenging
careers that our heroines and heroes have. The books are
big enough to reveal the characters' growth as they make
the joyous discovery that love is what it's all about."
Linda's waiting for her three grown sons—all single,
bright, and gorgeous—to make the same discovery. She hopes
that if she writes enough romances, they'll take the hint!
