Marijke Schermer

Marijke Schermer was born in Amsterdam in 1975, grew up largely in Groningen, and studied at the Arnhem Theater School (ARTEZ) to become an actress. She did get her diploma but never acted again after that. She wrote plays and librettos and directed her own and others' work. In 2009 she was awarded the Charlotte Kohler Prize. Her stage work has been translated into English, German, French and Romanian. She wrote a number of short stories and the novels Mensen in de zon (2013), Noodweer (2016) and Love, if that's it (2019), published by Uitgeverij van Oorschot and received acclaim in the press. Love, if it is, was on the shortlist of the Libris Literature Prize 2020.
