Gerhardt Roberts
Gerhardt Roberts grew up in Germany during the Cold War era and witnessed firsthand the successes and the setbacks of a nation struggling to redefine itself in the aftermath of World War II and Nazi terror. In the 1970’s he served in the Army Security Agency as a German linguist and intelligence analyst in Bavaria. He has been a Professor of German and History for nearly 40 years at various colleges and universities. His passion is all things German: the people, the language, the culture and the history.
“Safe Harbor,” his first novel, deals with two lovers who go underground in World War II Berlin, risking their lives to help Jews evade the Nazi dragnet and escape to freedom.
His second novel, “The Wall Between Us,” finds a young Stasi Agent falling in love with the daughter of a pastor he has arrested for crimes against the state. In a country that rewards free speech with punishment and imprisonment, the three protagonists embark on a journey that will change their lives forever.
