Cara Hunter

Cara Hunter

Cara Hunter is a Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling author who lives in Oxford, in a street not unlike those featured in her series of crime books. Close to Home, her debut featuring DI Adam Fawley and his team of detectives, was published by Viking in December 2017, and nominated for the Crime and Thriller Book of the Year at the British Book Awards, as well as being a Richard and Judy Book Club pick. No Way Out was selected by the Sunday Times as one of the 100 best crime novels since 1945, and The Whole Truth was a Richard and Judy pick in 2021.

At the heart of each new Cara Hunter thriller is a domestic tragedy or crime that demands answers from the family and friends of the victim. With echoes of real-life crime stories, Hunter toys with the readers’ implicit expectations, crafting fiendishly plotted storylines. The six novels in the DI Fawley series have to date sold over one million copies in the UK, and been published in 29 territories. The TV rights for the series have been sold to Fremantle.

Cara’s standalone novel, Murder in the Family was published by HarperCollins in 2023, and is set to be adapted for TV by Neal Street Productions.

You can follow Cara on Twitter and view her website. She also has a podcast 'Watching the Detectives', where she and her police and forensics advisers talk about how criminal investigations are portrayed on screen, and what actually happens at a real crime scene.
