Katie McElhenney

Katie McElhenney has built her life around reading and writing. As a child she surrounded herself with books and stacks of paper filled with Shel Silverstein-inspired poems she foisted on unsuspecting parents as birthday gifts. She was convinced the Free Library of Philadelphia was a castle and dreamed of living there one day. Wanting to pass along the amazing worlds to be found inside pages, Katie got her BA in Elementary Education and a MEd in Reading Education as well as a Reading Specialist certification. After years of teaching kids from middle school to toddlers, she took some time off to devote herself to creating the kinds of stories she likes to read. She lives in Los Angeles now but would consider moving back to Philly if the library is looking for a tenant.
