Gregory P. Liefer

Gregory P. Liefer

Gregory Liefer was raised in the small island community of Wrangell in Southeast Alaska. He grew up with a strong appreciation of the outdoors and a fascination with aircraft and flying. During the summer months he worked as a deck hand on commercial fishing boats and later operated his own small boat for halibut and salmon. After graduating from Wrangell High School the author attended the University of Wyoming and University of Alaska, before joining the U.S. Army in 1978. During his military career he served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and as a helicopter pilot and instructor pilot at various locations, including two tours in Alaska. After retiring from the military he remained in Alaska for another fourteen years, working primarily as a commercial pilot on the Alyeska Pipeline. His leisure time, when not hunting or fishing, is spent researching and writing about aviation history. Greg's first non-fiction book,Broken Wings, was published in 2003. The book was re-released by Publication Consultants in June of 2014 with updated stories and over 150 additional images. His second non-fiction book, Aviation Mysteries of the North, was published by Publication Consultants in 2011. Last Flight, his first novel, is scheduled for release by Yucca Publishing in April 2016. The author holds an FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate and has flown 11,000 hours in various type aircraft. Twenty-three of his thirty-two year flying career was in Alaska. He is a graduate of the State University of New York, as well as the Army’s Warrant Officer Advanced Course, Senior Course, Staff Course, several helicopter qualification courses, the OH-58 Scout Instructor Pilot Course and Bell Helicopter's Training Academy. He currently resides in Idaho with his wife Liz, continuing his writing career. He has one daughter, married and working in Idaho.
