Carol J. Perry is the author of three current cozy mystery series, all published by Kensington. The Massachusetts-born writer and her husband Dan now live in Florida and the spookiest parts of both states are highlighted in her books. Her long-running Witch City Mystery series is set in the very real city of Salem, Massachusetts, where Carol was born on Halloween eve.
The Haunted Haven Mysteries have a paranormal twist, and some ghostly goings-on take place in a century-old hotel in a fictitious Florida locale—one made up from bits and pieces of several of the Sunshine State’s charming older towns and cities that the super highways and the crowded big-name attractions have passed by.
The newest series, Wicked Salem Mysteries is a spin off from the Witch City tales, with many of the familiar characters taking on new challenges, and a fresh point of view.
All three series of course, feature murder in its varying forms, along with a variety of dogs and cats, and perhaps a few ghosts, spirits and maybe the occasional witch. Some of the animals have assumed important roles in each protagonists’ mystery solving. Watch for a gentle Golden retriever named Finn, and Toby, a sweet Black Lab. O’Ryan is a delightful clairvoyant gentleman cat. Meet some outdoor cats named Bogie and Bacall, and Frankie, who wanders in and out of the books whenever she wants to.
Look too, for a sprinkling of historical facts, local legends, real people and places carefully mixed in with the fictional happenings in each book. Carol loves the research associated with creating her stories and believes in passing on to readers some of the interesting things she’s learned.
