Sara Whitford

I wear a lot of hats. Really.

First and foremost, I’m a stay-at-home, work-at-home, homeschooling mom to my son, Isaac. I also run a business called Lookout Publishing from a little island community here on the North Carolina coast.

By day, I’m a web designer and part-time magazine editor. By night, I’m a writer.

My first novel is called THE SMUGGLER'S GAMBIT. It’s the story of 17-year-old Adam Fletcher, who upon being bound into an apprenticeship finds himself a pawn in the middle of a smuggling war.

In addition, I’m trying to encourage my fellow writers with WritingChallenge.org, which is the official website that I developed for the 500 words/day monthly Twitter writing challenge, founded by Kristy Acevedo (@kristyace).

In the past, I have written for periodicals as well as historical reference sites. You can find some samples of my research at East Carolina Roots and Coastal Carolina Indian Center. One of my articles, entitled “On the Trail of Tom, or a New Look at the Tuscarora War,” was cited in The Tuscarora War: Indians, Settlers, and the Fight for the Carolina Colonies: Indians, Settlers, and the Fight for the Carolina Colonies by UNC-Wilmington history professor David LaVere. Another article and its accompanying interview, which I conducted with indigenous languages expert Blair Rudes, PhD. in 2006, appeared in the November 2014 issue of Southern Quarterly, the literary journal of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Most importantly, I give God the glory for all that I accomplish. None of it would be possible without Him.

Soli Deo Gloria.
