Elizabeth Evans

Elizabeth Evans

Elizabeth Evans was born, raised, and educated in Iowa. She attended Cornell College and the University of Iowa, where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Iowa Writers' Workshop. She is the author of six books of fiction, including the forthcoming novel "As Good As Dead." Her two short story collections are "Suicide's Girlfriend" and "Locomotion." Previous novels are "The Blue Hour," which the "Washington Post Book World" called "Very much a Great American Novel;" "Carter Clay," which the "Los Angeles Times Book Review" chose as one of the Best Books of the Year; and "Rowing in Eden." Recent stories appear in the journals "Ploughshares" and "Cutthroat," as well as the collection "XO Orpheus: Fifty New Myths."

Evans' distinctions include the Iowa Author Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the James Michener Fellowship, and a Lila Wallace Award. She has been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, the International Retreat for Writers at Hawthornden Castle, Wurlitzer, and other foundations.

Evans is Professor Emeritus for the Program in Creative Writing at the University of Arizona, and frequently teaches for Queens University of Charlotte's Low-residence MFA Program in Creative Writing. She makes her home in Tucson, Arizona.
