Tace Baker

Tace Baker

Pseudonym: Edith Maxwell.

Tace Baker is a pseudonym for the mystery writer Edith Maxwell. Tace is an old-fashioned Quaker name, which seemed fitting for the author of a series featuring a Quaker Linguistics professor.

Tace has always been interested in languages and linguistics, and has traveled widely in pursuit of those interests. It’s no surprise that Lauren Rousseau is a polyglot and has a keen ear for accents in the English of native speakers and non-native speakers alike.

Edith has published several short mystery stories and has a new series, the cozy Local Foods Mysteries, featuring organic farmer Cam Flaherty and the local Locavore Club. The first book in that series, A Tine to Live, a Tine to Die, will be published in Spring of 2013 by Kensington Publishing.

Edith has always been a writer. Creating fiction, long and short, is her passion. She has made her living writing technical documentation in the software industry for nearly two decades. Before that she variously wrote features and essays as a free-lance journalist, edited medical texts, and produced several published articles and a doctoral dissertation in the field of Linguistics. And before that, as a child and teenager, she wrote fiction and news articles. It must be in her blood.

Edith is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Romance Writers of America, Sisters in Crime and its Guppies subgroup, and is on the board of the New England chapter of Sisters in Crime. She is also a member of the Society of Friends (Quaker), as is the protagonist of Speaking of Murder, Lauren Rousseau. Lauren’s sometime-boyfriend, Zac, works in video forensics on a system for which Edith wrote several of the manuals at a previous job.
