Joan Walsh

Joan Walsh joined Salon as news editor in 1998 and was promoted to editor-in-chief in 2005. Before her tenure at Salon, she wrote freelance for various media outlets, including Salon, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Vogue, and the Nation and ran her own business consulting to national foundations and nonprofits on education, community development, and urban poverty issues. In the 1980s Walsh was California bureau chief for β€œIn These Times” and editor of the Santa Barbara News and Review. She lives in San Francisco.
