Mary Moody

I am a Massachusetts native who has lived all over the Commonwealth. I grew up in a collecting family where I learned the pleasure of the treasure hunt. I love writing stories about the ingenious ways people find to participate in the antiques marketplace. I have an MBA from Clark University in Worcester, and live with my husband in the Berkshires. I'll be writing posts irregularly on my progress with my next Lucy St. Elmo mystery. It's working title is Under the Hammer, and my publisher expects it this summer! The new story continues Lucy's life after the Brimfield excitement (see A Killing in Antiques). She's back home on Cape Cod tending to her business: buying at local auctions (thus, Under the Hammer), managing her antiques shop, and interacting with her family and friends. It is winter. I've written an Outline this time — who does what to whom — along with a time-line of events. With this in hand, I should know who Lucy needs to interact with and what she needs to learn to solve the mystery. This will allow me to explore and develop the characters further as I write. While not cast in stone, I don't think much will change as the story develops. But, as in much of my writing, it will depend on what happens as the characters interact with one another.
