He graduated with departmental honors in English from Vassar College and holds an M.A. and M.F.A. in creative writing from Hollins University and Washington University respectively, where he studied with Richard Dillard, Stanley Elkin, and William Gass. Ross and his wife relocated to Nashville in 1995, where they continue to reside with their two daughters.
