Karan Mahajan

Karan Mahajan

Karan grew up in New Delhi, India and moved to the US for college. His first novel, Family Planning (2008), was a finalist for the International Dylan Thomas Prize. It was published in nine countries.

His second novel, The Association of Small Bombs (2016), was a finalist for the 2016 National Book Awards and was named one of the "10 Best Books of 2016" by The New York Times.

His third novel, The Complex, is forthcoming in March 2026.

In 2017, he was named one of Granta's "Best Young American Novelists" and in 2019, he received the Jeannette Haien Ballard Writer's Prize given annually to "a young writer of proven excellence in poetry or prose."

Karan's writing has appeared in The New YorkerThe New York Times,The New York Review of BooksThe Atlantic MonthlyVanity Fair,The New Republic, and other venues.

A former fellow at the Cullman Center for Writers and Scholars, he is an associate professor in Literary Arts at Brown University.
