Zo Newell

Zo Newell earned her Masterโ€™s of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School in 1988, with a focus on religions of the world. She began her study of yoga at age 14, with neurosurgeon/psychiatrist Rammurti S. Mishra, M.D. at Ananda Ashram in New York State. In Nashville, she created the Yoga Education Society and co-founded the Southern Institute of Yoga Studies with Betty Larsen and John Charping. She is certified at the 1,000 hour level as an experienced (ERYT) yoga instructor, a member of Yoga Alliance since 1999, and the first certified Relax and Renew trainer in Tennessee. Zo provided the yoga component of the pain management program at Baptist Hospitalโ€™s Mind/Body Institute. She developed the yoga curriculum for breast cancer survivors for Baptistโ€™s Healing through Movement project. She currently teaches mainly therapeutic and restorative classes in Nashville, offers workshops on pranayama and yoga philosophy, and she is currently working on a book on mythology and asana. She offers individualized instruction by appointment and maintains a small counseling practice.
