Roxann Delaney

Roxann Delaney

Roxann doesnโ€™t remember a time when she didnโ€™t have books โ€” and lots of them, from all over the country. Born and raised in Kansas, where she still lives, her life hasnโ€™t been confined to the Wheat State. As a child, she traveled with her parents, visiting 48 U.S. states, Canada, Mexico, and even Havana, Cuba. Souvenirs were Little Golden Books, collected along the way and inscribed with her name, date, and the location where they were purchased. Even before she could read, books were hard for her to put down, and she was often caught under the covers with a flashlight after bedtime enjoying her books. She continues to travel to romance writersโ€™ conferences, but she leaves the flashlight at home. Her reading inspired writing, and as a skinny, bespectacled nine-year-old, she bullied the neighborhood children and her younger cousins into performing the plays she wrote. Her romance journey began in high school when she read her first Georgette Heyer Regency novel. In no time at all, she had a complete set of the authorโ€™s books. But theater and the performing arts called to her in high school, too, and she was actively involved in the drama department, including playing the roles of Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion, Vinnie, the mother, in Life with Father, and Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun. Years later, she helped form a community theater group in her hometown; she both acted in and directed the group's productions, and she also served on the board of directors. Sheโ€™s come to the conclusion that reading, writing, and acting are nothing more than excuses to become someone elseโ€ฆat least in her own mind. As a single mother of four daughters, life is never boring in her small hometown, where her ancestors settled more than 100 years ago. Sheโ€™s watching the family tree sprout new branches and her excitement is growing at the prospect of becoming a grandmother to her very first granddaughter โ€” to be named Scarlett (yes, of Gone With the Wind fame). When she isnโ€™t writing or reading, or dealing with teenage crises, she keeps her former classmates up to date on each other as the official class reunion planner and the creator/web mistress of their very own web site. The latter led to several web designing projects, which often save her sanity when writing doesnโ€™t satisfy the creative bug or when characters refuse to cooperate. Writing is still her first love, and sheโ€™s thrilled to have followed the yellow brick road to her personal Oz, the land of Silhouette Romance novels.
