Joseph A. Kechichian
Joseph A. Kechichian is the CEO of Kechichian & Associates,
LLC, a consulting partnership that provides analysis on the
Gulf region, and a fellow at UCLAs Gustav R. von Grunebaum
Center for Near Eastern Studies. He received a doctorate in
foreign affairs from the University of Virginia in 1985,
where he also taught (1986-88) and served as assistant dean
in international studies (1988-89). From 1990 to 1996, he
was an associate political scientist at the Santa
Monica-based RAND Corporation (receiving a RAND Presidents
Award for Research Excellence in 1995) and a lecturer at the
University of California at Los Angeles. The recipient of a
Smith Richardson Foundation grant for 1998-99, Dr.
Kechichian is the author of Oman and the World: The
Emergence of an Independent Foreign Policy (Santa Monica:
RAND, 1995) and is completing a study tentatively titled The
National Security of Saudi Arabia.
