Ruth Scofield

Ruth, born and raised in Missouri, fell in love with the game of let’s pretend at the age of three. With an active imagination, fueled by movies, radio, and TV, she led the neighborhood kids in playing out all the Tarzan, Old West, and musical roles she’d ever encountered. She climbed trees, swinging, and then jumping from a high branch, loved climbing to her rooftop, and took daredevil sled runs. She loved horseback riding and the countryside, music, and reading. She sang and danced all over the house. When Ruth married a neighbor boy, it was the finest choice she ever made. Together they tromped over the Old West on vacations, taking dirt switchback roads over Rocky Mountain passes, and rode the mules to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. They visited civil war battlefields, the Black Hills of Dakota, and old gold and silver mines. They visited England, Paris, Hawaii’s volcano, and Alaska’s ancient ice. As her family grew and prospered, Ruth & Co. found themselves on the East Coast. It opened new historical territory to explore, and Ruth took full advantage of it. There, too, she at last put her dreams into action and began to write. Now back in Missouri, she says, "I haven’t enough time to write all of the stories I have walking around in my head, both of the Old West and the Love Inspired modern-day stories of men and women learning about love, God’s love, and romantic love." Her favorite people to play let’s pretend with these days are her grandchildren. They keep Ruth breathless just to stay up β€” especially when her oldest granddaughter has plans to take Ruth skydiving. "I’m just holding my breath on that one," she says. She’s given up climbing trees and jumping from a high branch. But sometimes, when no one is looking, she still sings and dances throughout the house. Readers may write to her at: Ruth Scofield, PO Box 1221, Blue Springs, Missouri, 64013.
