Katherine Tarbox

Katherine Tarbox

Katherine “Katie” Tarbox, is the author of best-selling book, Katie.com, a ground breaking memoir detailing her account with an Internet Predator. When she was only thirteen, Ms. Tarbox was a victim of Internet predator and consequently became involved in a landmark Federal case. Her case was one of the first to be tried under the 1996 Communications Decency Act and is still referenced by many legal cases today. At the age of eighteen, Tarbox published her memoir and became the leading advocate for Internet safety regarding Internet predators. She has appeared in numerous media outlets such as Oprah, The Today Show, Time Magazine, CNN and People. Tarbox remains current on issues surrounding Internet safety by working with experts in both the public and private sector. She uses her expertise to testify for Congressional hearings on many occasions and to work with various non-profit organizations. Internet safety is a worldwide concern. In the summer of 2002, NHK of Japan produced a one-hour documentary regarding Tarbox’s work with victims of Internet crimes and her efforts to help law enforcement understand this crime. This documentary has been widely distributed throughout Asia and Europe. In the summer of 2004, Court TV produced a similar documentary of Tarbox’s work and is hosted by Al Roker. The day that her documentary aired, Mayor Bloomberg proclaimed Internet Safety Day in New York City. After the publication of her book world-wide, Tarbox lectures internationally on many aspects of Internet safety from predators to pornography. She is recently a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
