Chuck Whitlock

Chuck Whitlock

Following a successful career in business, Chuck began his career in broadcasting when he came to the attention of Oprah Winfrey's producers as the author of Easy Money, his first book on white-collar crime. After the first of several appearances on Oprah, Chuck created, produced, and anchored a regular news segment entitled Easy Money for KGW- TV, the Portland, Oregon, NBC affiliate. Many of his investigative reports were broadcast nationwide on the NBC News satellite feed.

As an independent producer for the Inside Edition segment "Medicare Sting," Chuck was a recipient of the National Headliner Award for Outstanding Investigative Reporting as well as the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi Award for Television Investigative Reporting.

Chuck's work as a producer and investigative reporter brought him to the attention of Hard Copy, which contracted with him to produce over 50 segments focusing on scams, con artists, and consumer issues.

Chuck hosted The Scam Show with Chuck Whitlock, a nationally syndicated weekly radio show. Chuck completed Scam School (Macmillan), a book about many of the scams and con artists he'd exposed on the air. He also created a weekly newspaper column entitled Scam Alert which he wrote for The Columbian.

Chuck later joined the nationally syndicated magazine series Extra as its Investigative Correspondent. Chuck served as Executive Producer and Host of Telepictures' one- hour special entitled Extra Undercover with Chuck Whitlock.

Chuck was awarded an Excellence in Consumer Education in Television Broadcasting Award from the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators for his undercover investigation of an illegal Canadian telemarketing boiler room for Extra. The Washington State Crime Prevention Association presented Chuck with its award for 2002 Crime Prevention Program of the Year.

As Executive Producer and Host, Chuck produced Crimeline, a television show developed for Oregon Trail Television. Chuck was Co-Host and Investigative Reporter for Live & Learn, a television pilot developed for Fox Domestic Television. Selected segments of Chuck's "cons-on-camera" recently appeared in a British special Hoaxbusters, which has been sold to the Discovery Channel. Chuck hosted a one- hour travel scams special for the Travel Channel.

In his book MediScams (Renaissance Media: 2001) Chuck reveals how to spot and avoid health care scams, medical fraud, and quackery. From physicians to health care providers, Chuck exposes mistreatment of patients, Medicaid and Medicare fraud, and more.

In his book Police Heroes (Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin's Press: 2002), Chuck honors and celebrates the men, women and K-9 officers who are asked to put their personal safety aside for a greater good on a daily basis. Some remarkably courageous individuals, all of whom acted bravely in the most trying, life-threatening situations, are featured in Police Heroes.

In his latest book Age without Rage (R-W International: 2004), Chuck and co-author Bill Reed bring together other experts to address the issues important to aging confidently and smartly. Chuck writes about con artists targeting seniors and what seniors can do to avoid being scammed. Other experts address such issues as staying financially independent, protecting your assets from catastrophic illness, long-term health care, legal considerations for seniors, housing options, and mental health issues for seniors, among other topics.

Chuck recently signed a contract to produce segments for the television show 60 Minutes II.

Chuck's latest project is CRIMELINE™, a law enforcement training program that features top experts and specialized training modules. Sponsored by Experian, one of the world's largest credit reporting agencies, the course presents information about identity theft, money laundering and terrorism, financial exploitation of and fraud against seniors, street cons, cyber crime, forensic accounting, investment fraud, credit card and check fraud, and medical fraud.

A well-respected consumer advocate and speaker certified by the National Speakers Association (NSA), Chuck speaks to audiences across the United States about how they can protect themselves from being scammed. A nationally recognized expert on scams, he has shared his knowledge and experiences on numerous radio and television programs.
