Suspense | Thriller

Penny and Hattie are sisters who were orphaned at a young age. Elder sister Penny always felt she had to take care of Hattie. Penny married Buddy thinking this would be her new life. Little did she know, her life would never be the same? Buddy turned into a maniac, controlling where Penny could and couldn't go. And whenever he was drunk, he became physical with her.

Penny and Hattie eventually came up with a plan to get Penny out of this marriage, but their actions would haunt them for the rest of their lives... Years later, a young man comes into both of their lives. Jameson was a teacher at the same school that Penny worked at, and quickly becomes friends with both sisters, but soon falls in love with Hattie. They get married and want nothing more than to start a family, but after a few years of trying, Hattie can't seem to get pregnant.

With their past looming over them, Hattie and Penny are at odds. And when Hattie asks a huge favor of Penny, Penny is reluctant to help her sister. As time goes on, will these sisters ever be able to trust one another again?

Laurie Petrou writes a great story about family. Two sisters as close as they could be growing up become almost enemies. SISTER OF MINE is full of different twist and turns. Who is really the good sister and who is the bad sister? I have to say I didn't expect the ending at all. In my head, I saw this book ending completely different. However, Petrou's ending was much better. So with the cold season coming upon us, pick up this book; you will really like it.

SUMMARY

For fans of Sarah Pinborough and Liane Moriarty comes a taut domestic suspense about the lies we tell to hold our lives together.

Sisters, like secrets, are best kept close.

Penny and Hattie, orphaned sisters in a small town, are best friends, bound together to the point of knots. But Penny, at the mercy of her brutal husband, is desperate for a fresh start. Willing to do anything for her older sister, Hattie agrees to help. A match is struck and a fire burns Penny’s marriage to the ground. With her husband gone, Penny is free, and the sisters, it seems, get away with murder. But freedom comes at a cost.

More than a year after the fire, a charming young man comes to town. Hattie and Penny quickly bring him into the fold and into their hearts but their love for him threatens the delicate balance. Soon long-held resentments, sibling rivalry, and debts unpaid boil over, and the bonds of sisterhood begin to snap. As one little lie grows into the next, the sisters’ secrets will unravel, eroding their lives until only a single, horrible truth remains: You owe me.

A compelling novel of suspense from a talented new voice, Sister of Mine asks us to consider the bonds of family, what it takes to commit the unthinkable, and how far you’ll go to protect the ones you love.
