Angela is a death investigator and loves her job.
Sometimes she has to investigate scenes that hit home,
eEspecially when she has to investigate the car crash that
involves two of the granddaughters of the wealthiest
resident of Chouteau Forest. One of the girls is DOA at
the scene, the other in critical condition. Angela
knows that this is going to be very hard on everyone
involved in this crash.
Angela felt that this was one of the worst things that
could happen until Angela gets a migraine so
bad that she goes to the ER. Doctor Gravois sends her
home saying that she just need to rest. Now fast forward
three weeks. Angela wakes up in the hospital and finds
out that two days after leaving the ER she had 6 strokes.
Most people would have died after this, but Doctor Tritt
saves her life.
Angela doesn't remember a lot that happen, but her good
friend Kate fills her in. Doctor Tritt informs her that
Doctor Gravois is an idiot, and should have done more
tests on Angela before she was sent home. Doctor Tritt
hates Doctor Gravois; he feels that so many people have
died because of him.
After the two doctors have an argument in front of almost
the whole hospital staff, the CEO of the hospital tells
them that they must met in the cafeteria and make amends
or both will be discharged. Both doctors agree to this
and as the hospital staff watches, they shake hands and
sit for coffee. After a few minutes, Angela goes over to
Dr. Gravois to give him a piece of her mind. Lo and
behold Dr. Gravois falls flat on his face and is dead. Who
would have killed this beloved Doctor at least that is
how much of the staff feels about him. Of course, the
main suspect is Doctor Tritt.
I have to say, BRAIN STORM by Elaine Viets made my brain
hurt. In a good way. Suspense in this book was great.
In parts of this book, I was getting a little confused
and Angela was going back and forth from present to past.
I did have to go back and read a little to see what I had
missed. In saying this, it didn't take away anything
from the book.
What I found out at the end of the book was that this
really did happen to the author. That does explain a
lot of how she got into what happens when someone has a
stroke. BRAIN STORM is another great book to sit back and
let your
mind take over and puts you in Angela's shoes. Can't
wait to read more of Angela Richman, Death Investigator.
The ultrawealthy families of Chouteau Forest may look down on a woman like death investigator Angela Richman, but they also rely on her. When a horrific car crash kills a Forest teenager, Angela is among the first on the scene. Her investigation is hardly underway, however, when she suffers a series of crippling strokes. Misdiagnosed by the resident neurologist, Dr. Gravois, and mended by gauche yet brilliant neurosurgeon Dr. Jeb Travis Tritt, Angela faces a harrowing recovery. It’s a drug-addled, hallucinating Angela who learns that Dr. Gravois has been murdered…and the chief suspect is the surgeon who saved her life. Angela doesn’t believe it, but can she trust her instincts? Her brain trauma brings doubts that she’ll ever recover her investigative skills. But she’s determined to save Dr. Tritt from a death-row sentence—even if her progress is thwarted at every turn by a powerful and insular community poised to protect its own.
