Romance Paranormal

SOULBOUND is Book six in Kristen Callihan's Darkest London steampunk series. I think reading at least a few of the previous books in this series, if not all of them, in order to get a proper feel of this world and some of the main characters in SOULBOUND is a good idea. Adam is a fascinating and legendary character in the world that Kristen Callihan has created in her "Darkest London" series. SOULBOUND is not the story I expected it to be but it's a captivating one.

There are a lot of elements in SOULBOUND that seem reminiscent of fairytales -- which is very apt since a lot of the main characters in this tale are Fae. What could be more fitting, in some ancient and slightly twisted fairytale, than to find that your aunt is keeping a dark prince chained in her basement and you probably never really knew her true identity at all? That is the reality that Eliza May finds herself in at the beginning of SOULBOUND. That Eliza and Adam, the aforementioned chained man, have a very complicated and not so pleasant history adds another fascinating layer to this story.

The bonds that connect Adam to Eliza, and the magic behind that bond, are not always easy to understand in SOULBOUND. However, what is obvious is how trust plays a major role in the development of their relationship. Adam's recent captivity gives him a better understanding of what he did wrong in his earlier interactions with Eliza. There is a lot of personal growth on both sides before their relationship takes a turn for the better. Although their path to romance is very rocky, the payoff is well worth it. The moment they both let each other into their hearts is beautiful and very moving. Kristen Callihan does a great job of combining spellbinding storytelling, textured characters, and highly erotic romance.

SOULBOUND by Kristen Callihan is a tale of magic and one where romance blossoms after two people learn how to trust each other and put the past aside. Seeing favorite characters from past books make a great addition to the story and make sense, rather than distracting from it. I eagerly await the next installment in this always imaginative, sexy, and exciting Darkest London series.
