Romance Historical | Suspense
Lucy and her sister, Anna, have to come to London with
the reluctant permission of their father. Lucy is
determined that Anna will have a successful season. For
herself, a husband is her goal but she doesn't expect a
brilliant marriage. Anna and Lucy attract the attention of the dowager
Countess of Broughton. Not kindly lady, the dowager is
bent on preventing her grandson from acting on his
attraction to Anna. When the dowager drops dead at ball, nearly everyone
breathes a sigh of relief. When the death is determined
to be suspicious, nearly everyone becomes a suspect. Major Robert Kurland is summoned to London by the Prince
Regent's secretary. The Prince is determined to honor
his heroic efforts in battle. Determined to chastise
Lucy for her interference in his life, instead he finds
himself turning to her for protection from his former
fiancé. First Miss Chingford is implicated in the death of the
dowager. When she turns the attention toward Anna
Harrington as a suspect, the Major and Lucy will once
again be embroiled in the investigation. As the two investigate, family secrets will be exposed
and the scandal will become public. DEATH COMES TO LONDON is the second in the Kurland St.
Mary Mysteries, I enjoyed
this as much as I did the first. Ms. Lloyd writes an
extremely twisted mystery which will enthrall the reader.
I look forward to the next in the series. Robert and
Lucy have a contentious relationship with a spark of
attraction. Despite their differences, they work well
together to discover the identity of the killer.
SUMMARY
A season in London promises a welcome change of pace for
two
friends from the village of Kurland St. Mary—until murder
makes a debut… With the reluctant blessings of their father, the rector of
Kurland St. Mary, Lucy Harrington and her sister Anna leave
home for a social season in London. At the same time,
Lucy’s
special friend Major Robert Kurland is summoned to the city
to accept a baronetcy for his wartime heroism. Amidst the dizzying whirl of balls and formal dinners, the
focus shifts from mixing and matchmaking to murder when the
dowager Countess of Broughton, the mother of an old army
friend of Robert, drops dead. When it’s revealed she’s been
poisoned, Robert’s former betrothed, Miss Chingford, is
accused, and she in turn points a finger at Anna. To
protect
her sister, Lucy enlists Robert’s aid in drawing out the
true culprit. But with suspects ranging from resentful rivals and
embittered family members to the toast of the ton, it will
take all their sleuthing skills to unmask the poisoner
before more trouble is stirred up…
