The king of England, Henry VI, makes a secret pack to trade
English territory for a French bride, Margaret of Anjou.
This sparks an English revolt, and the Yorks see their
opportunity to exploit Henry VI's weakness. Henry VI and his
supporters now find themselves wondering who or what can
save their kingdom before it is too late.
Conn Iggulden has taken a well -- known historical conflict
and brought life to the characters fighting the battle. WARS
OF THE ROSES is based around the War of the Roses, between
the Yorks and the Lancasters. For the most part, the story
is historically accurate and features the intrigue, battles,
and dangers of court life in the 1400s. Readers will find
these elements compelling, and the excitements will have
readers turning page after page.
Though, most of the characters are historically correct,
spymaster Derry Brewer is not. Brewer still fits into the
time period, and he helps the plot weave between the two
families. Some of the torture and killing scenes are a bit
descriptive, and some readers may find this unpleasant.
Battle scenes keep the story moving, and the characters are
interesting and cleverly written. WARS OF THE ROSES is a
historical fiction that is action packed and filled with
adventure.
The first book in #1 New York Times–bestselling author Conn Iggulden’s brilliant new historical series about two families who plunged England into a devastating, decades- long civil war. In 1437, the Lancaster king Henry VI ascends the throne of England after years of semi-peaceful regency. Named “The Lamb,” Henry is famed more for his gentle and pious nature than his father’s famous battlefield exploits; already, his dependence on his closest men has stirred whispers of weakness at court. A secret truce negotiated with France to trade British territories for a royal bride—Margaret of Anjou—sparks revolts across English territory. The rival royal line, the House of York, sees the chaos brought on by Henry’s weakness and with it not only opportunity in the monarch, but also their patriotic duty in ousting an ineffectual king. As storm clouds gather over England, King Henry and his supporters find themselves besieged abroad and at home. Who or what can save the kingdom before it is too late?
