Rachael Hamilton is on her way to a party with her roommate
Eva's theater friends. Instead, she accidentally ends up
at a party being held by members of the New York Leopards,
a NFL team. She is hiding from the crowd when she meets
the insufferable Ryan Carter, the Leopards' quarterback.
He is gorgeous, rich, and full of himself. The next day,
Rachael realizes that she forgot her scarf at the party and
goes back. She ends up striking up an unexpected
friendship with several members of the team, putting her in
close proximity with Ryan on a regular basis.
Rachael is living off her savings and what she can earn as
a temp while she tries to break into publishing. She had
hoped her unpaid internship would help her get her foot in
the door, but time and her savings are running out. Ryan
is a successful, well-know athlete, and he is used to women
throwing themselves at him. Rachael knows nothing about
sports or Ryan's world, which he finds refreshing and
occasionally exasperating. As Rachael and Ryan fall in
love, they both have to find their way in a relationship
that is completely different from anything they have ever
had. Both Ryan and Rachael's insecurities lead to many
misunderstandings throughout their relationship, and they
are both learning as they go.
Rachael's roommate Eva is in a production of Pride and
Prejudice: The Musical!, and the parallels between that
story and Rachael and Ryan's relationship are
entertaining. Fans of the Austen novel will enjoy the song
titles and lyrics that are thrown in for fun. Who wouldn't
want to sing along to Universally Acknowledged In Want of
a Wife?
RUSH ME is a funny story of falling in love and finding
yourself. Rachael is a strong, snarky heroine, and this is
an engaging hate-to-love story. Parr's debut novel is a
great entry into the growing New Adult genre.
When post-grad Rachael Hamilton accidentally gate-crashes a pro-athlete
party, she ends up face-to-face with Ryan Carter, the NFL's most beloved
quarterback.
While most girls would be thrilled to meet the attractive young millionaire,
Rachael would rather spend time with books than at sporting events, and
she has more important things to worry about than romance. Like her
parents pressuring her to leave her unpaid publishing internship for law
school.
But when Ryan's rookie teammate attaches himself to Rachael, she ends
up cohosting Friday-night dinners for half a dozen football players.
Over pancake brunches, charity galas and Alexander the Great, Rachael
realizes all the judgments she'd made about Ryan are wrong. But how can
a Midwestern Irish-Catholic jock with commitment problems and an artsy,
gun-shy Jewish New Englander ever forge a partnership? Rachael must let
down her barriers if she wants real love—even if that opens her up to pain
that could send her back into her emotional shell forever.
