Ever After

Fantasy Urban

EVER AFTER, the latest installment of The Hollows series by Kim Harrison once again has us following the actions and predicaments of some the more well known citizens of Cincinnati , Ohio. Well known does not always mean well liked or popular.

The story yet again puts the blame on Rachel and shows her in a bad light. While all the demons stand back making no move to help her or themselves, until the end when she has handled everything. But that is what demons do best. A very powerful and evil demon makes a return to exploit a mistake Rachel made in the ley lines and convinces all of the demons and the council that she is the one to blame and if she does not fix her mistake the everafter will no longer exist. Extreme yes, but that is what a bully that wants his own way does. It is very interesting to see how she handles this situation and who she trusts to help her out.

EVER AFTER also has some people from her past show up and in the end get what they deserve. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story that you don't see coming. Some are very interesting and make the story better, while some are very sad and have you grabbing for a tissue. There is also a very, very drunk Al in this book that is not to be missed. I really enjoyed EVER AFTER, and if you are a fan of The Hollows series it is a must read. If you are new to the series you have to start at the beginning or you will be lost, but the time you spend reading this is series is worth it.

SUMMARY

The ever after, the demonic realm that parallels the human world, is shrinking. If it disappears completely, so does all magic. It's up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to avert catastrophe and keep life from changing . . . for the worse. While saving the world is important, it isn't Rachel's only motivation. There's also the small fact that she caused the ley line to rip in the first place, setting off a chain reaction of unfortunate events. That little mistake has made her life forfeit unless she can fix it. It's also made her more than a few enemies, including the most powerful demon in the ever after-a terrifying entity who eats souls and now has an insatiable appetite for her. He's already kidnapped her friend and goddaughter to lure her out, and if Rachel doesn't give herself up soon, they'll die. But Rachel has more than a few impressive and frightening skills of her own, and she isn't going to hand over her soul and her life without one hell of a fight. She's also got a surprise: elven tycoon Trent Kalamack. With this unlikely ally beside her-a prospect both thrilling and unnerving-she's going to return to the ever after, kick some demon butt, rescue her loved ones . . . and prevent an apocalypse before it's too late. Or, at least that's the plan . . .
