Until that fateful day, life was a bowl of cherries for
Leah McKenzie, a young first-year associate lawyer in Saint
Louis, Missouri. She loved her new dream job working at
Blanton, Trevatham and Dunn as well as riding to work with
the top down in her bright cherry red Mustang. Still
recovering from the trauma of seeing her mentor, Carl
Trevatham, a senior partner with the firm gunned down in
front of her, Leah is shocked to overhear that she is going
to be framed for his murder. Her only choice is to flee,
but where?
Quickly gathering up some cash as she heads out of town,
Leah thinks of a grandmother she never met. He mother, now
decreased, had been Amish, but had been shunned by her
community for marrying her father, an outsider. With
nowhere else to turn, Leah hopes to find a safe haven until
she could think of a way to defend herself.
Seeking out her grandmother's farm in the dark, Leah drives
too quickly and crashes into the back of an Amish Buggy.
Fortunately, the owner of the buggy, John Miller, knows
what to do in this emergency. While of Amish birth, he had
left his community years before and served as an officer in
Afghanistan. Suffering from post-traumatic stress and the
conflicts with his own beliefs, he has returned to his
community and is striving to settle back into life there
as a fine furniture carpenter.
Taken in by the Miller family, Leah finds her safe haven
and eagerly takes up Amish ways. With John as her guide to
Amish ways, Leah quickly starts to lose her heart to this
handsome carpenter still caught between two worlds. Still,
she knows that this can only be an interlude. Her own life
and future is still in danger from those who want to frame
her. How can she ever defend herself? Who can she trust?
Can there be a future for her with John?
With remarkable skill, debut author Erin Bates quickly sets
the stage of Leah's happy life and then with roller coaster
speed, rapidly heightens the suspense and storyline as Leah
flees. So, be warned: HER AMISH MAN will be very hard to
put
down once you start reading!
With a strong understanding of Amish ways, Bates has
developed an intriguing story with very realistic
characters. She is particularly adept at showing their
emotional responses to their beliefs and circumstances.
With this first book, Bates is sure to gain many fans, so
hopefully there will be more books from this new talented
author!
Because Leah McKenzie’s mother was “shunned” for marrying an
outsider, Leah has never known her Amish relatives. Then she
is framed for a murder she didn’t commit, and she needs
somewhere to hide until she can clear her name. Confident no
one would think to search for her in an Amish community, she
heads for her grandmother’s home in Illinois. A safe haven
is all Leah is looking for, but she soon finds herself
entranced by the simplicity of the old-fashioned lifestyle.
What she doesn’t expect is to find a man there who stirs her
heart.
When John Miller left his Amish village to attend college
and join the military, he never thought he’d return. After
the horrors he witnessed in war, however, he longed for a
tranquillity he knew that he could find only among his own
people. Working as a craftsman, making beautiful furniture,
John has found in the soft warmth of the wood the peace he
feared might be lost forever. But his world is soon turned
upside down when he falls for the “English” woman who has
come to be reunited with her kinsfolk. When danger follows
Leah, John must not only protect her but decide if her love
is worth the risk of being “banned” forever.
